We start this week with our regular look at the markets, including Andrew's latest insights, in the Dewing Grain Market Report for week commencing 7th October 2019.

In Farmchat, Andrew and Webby are joined by Jake Fiennes, general manager of conservation at Holkham. Following the State of Nature report published last week Andrew is keen to get some answers on conservation and the environment. Jake is clear that he isn't an environmentalist and carefully calls himself a land manager and has many useful suggestions on how farmers can enrich their farming environments - such as stopping farming the crap and the use of long straw manure. He has some convincing arguments in favour of British beef farming - urging people not to associate American grain fed bovine with grass-fed beef and making the point that grass is a better carbon sink that a conifer forest. Jake is campaigning for a new award at the farmers weekly. Eventually they break open the beer- Redwell West Coast Pale Ale as Jake agrees to record a second part which will be out soon.
